Everything about Noise totally explained

NOiSE is a one volume manga created by Tsutomu Nihei as a prequel to his ten-volume work, Blame!. Noise offers some information concerning the Megastructure's origins and initial size, as well as the origins of Silicon life. The book also include an early Blame! story that debuted in 1995.

Plot

Musubi Susono is sent to investigate cases of children being kidnapped. Each kidnapped child doesn't have access to the netsphere. She and her partner Clawsa investigate one of the possible sites, Clawsa is immediately killed by an unknown force, his body transforming into a Safeguard exterminator. Musubi tracks down his killer, who addresses himself as a representative of "The Order", he then unleashes an early Silicon Creature on her, she quickly dispatches it with an energy blade weapon which bears resemblance to the Gravitational Beam Emitter. Later she continues to find "The Order" and the secrets of the Netsphere. Eventually, after a near death experience she learns that The Order is taking advantage of the recent chaos in the Netsphere (most likely the loss of net access by many humans). They are using humans without Net Terminal Genes to draw the Safeguard. They then incapacitate the Safeguard and steal their technology, most prominently silicon based life. The Safeguard, in retaliation, reform the order of the Netsphere, separating themselves as an independent agency, and drafting Musubi into their ranks. However, she's unable to destroy The Order/Silicon Life as the City grows unchecked. After 3000 years the City has grown past the Moon, and Musubi hasn't seen human life for over 100 years.

Early Blame

The story portrays Killy as police officer in a post-apocalyptic subterranean city thats thriving with activity, who's investigating the brutal murder of a gang of drug dealers. He finds a heavily toned down Gravitational Beam Emitter as well as other elements that take vastly different forms in the later publication (for example, Silicon life). This early work of Tsutomu Nihei's sets up the universe and story for BLAME!, published three years later.
